Why git exists

Because `final_FINAL_v3_really.zip` is not a version control system.

Git keeps a history of your project. Every time you make a commit, git saves a snapshot, a bit like a save point in a game. You can look back at old snapshots, compare them, or return to one if something breaks.

  • Repository (repo): a project folder that git is tracking.
  • Commit: one saved snapshot, with a message saying what changed.
  • Branch: a separate timeline where you can experiment safely.

Tip: Git is the tool on your computer. GitHub (and GitLab, Bitbucket) are websites that host git repositories so you can share and collaborate. Different things, often used together.
